Web1. dec 2015 · Ok I have 2 things about how to put thermal paste on the heat spreader. 1. You do need to make sure that the paste goes mostly everywhere. The pressure of the heat sink on top of the heat spreader will spread the thermal paste around pretty evenly. So you at least need a correctly sized dot. There is a chain of thought that suggests that too much paste actually hinders heat transfer to the cooler. When I remove a cooler, I always see that the mating surfaces always have the thinnest smear. So I apply a single, small central "dot" accordingly. Regards
