WebIn cases of a large butterfly valve or a valve used in a liquid application for which fast closure could produce water hammer, a butterfly valve can be gear operated via a gearbox (Figure 2, right). The gearbox’s handwheel must be turned more than 90°, though, which eliminates the butterfly valve’s relatively fast closing speed.
