WebNov 17, 2016 · When I do start it after 2 or 3 weeks the lifter tick was so annoying and the longer the car sat, the longer the tick time was. I even started using SKULLNUTZ advice holding the throttle to the floor while the starter cycled to build up oil pressure, which worked. Got my first oil change at the dealer at 2k miles and switched to Penzoil Platnum.

Add a pint 1000 miles before you change the oil, then at the next oil change add 1 qt in place of a qt of oil and run it the full OCI, it should quiet things down, again if its dirt causing the tick. No valve ticking at idle, no tapping at any RPM. Once it warms up, the noise gradually appear. Sounded like there's a bad hydraulic lifter in one of the cylinder heads. The oil feed hole in the lifter must face away from the oil feed hole in the cylinder head. Lubricate the lifter (s) with clean 5W-30 engine oil and install them in their original bores.
